• Summary

This project aims at production of prototype locally made nontraditional CNC machines where not only an Egyptian University (Host University is Ain Shams University) owns the equipment but owns the production schematics of the equipment as well. This equipment represents the basis of strategic industries for Egypt. The project does confirm to the aims of Capacity Building Grant of providing state-of-art equipment to local research community. It confirms to the fact that a meaningful partnership between academia (Ain Shams University) and Private Sector Industry (Factory 999) to produce such machines. A protocol signed between Ain Shams University Faculty of Engineering and Factory 999 states that common area of interest shall receive support from both parties. Hence, a current MOU to construct such machines where manufacturing is done by Factory 999 while design and supervision is done by faculty of engineering (Research Team). This project does fit in both parties’ vision and mission and serves a primary goal towards achieving their respective strategic plan. Project, titled “Study and Investigation of Non-traditional CNC machines manufactured locally by Ministry of Military Production (FAC 999) to achieve enhanced performance and optimum cutting values”, as its name suggests is about Construction of non-traditional CNC machines by FAC999, whose design is done by Faculty of Engineering Ain Shams University. These machines include an Abrasive Waterjet Cutting Machine (AWJM) and an Ultrasonic Assisted Turning (UAT), and the process of machines verification and testing.
