The cooperation includes the following objectives and activities:
The outcomes of the project are 5:
- Enhancing the quality of education and competence in the partner university with regards to the green city topic in Egypt and its applications, through introducing technical and didactic tools and methods through education within the students’ workshop that matches the required skills, for example, GIS Geographic Information Systems would be introduced as a tool of analysis.
- Building this connection and network between the higher educational institutions and the different businesses in Egypt and Germany will increase the internship opportunities for the students.
- Enhancing the practice-oriented teaching at the partner university modules. Through the field work, the students will learn how to conduct participatory observation, and semi structured interviews and surveys. Those qualitative and quantitative methods will be used during analyzing the case studies and the issues related to the green city concept such as green tourism, waste management, public spaces, and food chain.
- Providing high level modules according to German quality standards and match with the Egyptian context, and it will be applied on Egyptian case studies.
- Opening the channels of discussion and cooperation between the Habitat Unit in TU Berlin, Ain Shams University in Egypt, and the business partners regarding the topic of green cities and its issues and case studies.
This would also include:
- Participation of both academic and non-academic partners in the project activities.
- Exchange of professors, graduate and undergraduate students and organizing workshops in Germany, and Egypt.
- The possibility of joint supervision of bachelor, master, and PhD thesis.
IUSD Tasks:
- Helping in preparing and organizing the workshops in Egypt.
- Participate in the project academic and students’ activities as the academic Egyptian partner.
- The University administration will support the project activities in the case studies
- Contribute to supervising the project quality.
- Select the participant students and junior researchers from Egypt [considering gender balance]
- Give inputs from their previous academic experience in this field.
- Disseminate the project results through targeted activities and tools (website, publication...).
Habitat Unit Tasks:
- General coordination and management of the project planned activities.
- Financial management of the budget plan in coordination with TU Berlin administration and according to the DAAD regulations.
- Assign the professors, researchers, and experts in their network as a part of the knowledge transfer and exchange through the planned activities. Through a series of input lectures (online if applicable) and accompanying supervision throughout the project duration.
- Presenting the German academic experience in the field of green cities
- Preparing international participants, including students and non-academic partners to different cultural contexts, to avoid possible misunderstanding and conflicts, based on our accumulated experience.
- Supervising the training and workshops in Germany and Egypt (content, contributions, moderation, communication with all partners, etc.).
- Supervising the material needed for dissemination, including the website, and social media posts.
