Project Summa

Developing countries around the world, including Egypt, face serious challenges in the proper management of waste.  Chief among those concerns is the management of solid waste (SW)—in Egypt such waste overflows in landfills and occupies the streets, not only working environmental harm, but also wasting a valuable source of energy.  Indeed, much of the waste dumped into landfills can be used to power Egypt’s industrial and commercial endeavors, propelling the Republic’s economic engine into the future while providing for cleaner cities and towns.

The proposed Solid Waste Management Center of Excellence would seek to meet precisely these challenges by bringing together Egypt’s greatest minds and its most experienced industrialists to design and implement the next generation of solid-waste management (SWM) technologies for Egypt.
