• Summary

This project aims to qualify and develop the Prosthetic Foot Performance and Durability Testing Laboratory at the Faculty of Engineering – Ain Shams University in accordance with the international ISO 22675 standard for testing prosthetic feet and ankle units for lower-limb prostheses, including fatigue tests and other performance evaluations. The work plan involves examining and identifying the gap between the laboratory’s current capabilities and global accreditation requirements, then bridging this gap by upgrading the infrastructure, technical facilities, and equipment necessary for testing in line with the standard.

Additionally, the project will involve designing and documenting work methods and quality procedures (both for ISO 22675 and ISO/IEC 17025, which ensures laboratory competence and the accuracy of results). Once the laboratory has been qualified and quality standards have been implemented, an application for international accreditation will be submitted, making the lab an accredited entity to conduct performance and durability tests on prosthetic feet and ankle units.

By achieving this, the laboratory will support the national industry through evaluating the quality of prosthetic devices—both imported and locally manufactured—in accordance with international standards, thereby saving time and costs for suppliers and manufacturers. The project will also help develop technical and human resources at the Faculty of Engineering, while enhancing research and development capabilities in the field of prosthetics in Egypt.
